Mechanical Design Engineer, Systems Product Development

The role involves engineering design and development of the world’s leading PV mounting systems. Typically, this includes fixed and tracking systems targeted at residential, commercial, and utility applications. The products are targeted for distribution through both internal direct sales channels and 3rd party distributor and installers.

The ideal person will have a basic understanding of engineering principles and concepts as well as experience in product design, machine design, and testing. Particular expertise with a variety of materials and fabrication techniques will be valuable. Knowledge of roof design and construction considered a plus. Familiarity with industrial design practices also considered positively.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

•Participate with the group manager and other engineers to establish functional requirements, and system cost and performance targets.
•Contribute to development plans, schedules and budgets.
•Participate in the design and development of individual products.
•Work with external consultants and internal resources to complete designs on time and within budget while meeting production cost targets.
•Support the transition of the product from design to manufacturing.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

•1-3 years experience in mechanical engineering design or product design
•Strong mechanical design aptitude
•Hands-on prototyping capability
•Demonstrated ability to develop creative and innovative design solutions
•BS in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field
•CAD skills, SolidWorks preferred
•Excellent written and verbal skills
•Machine shop or construction experience preferred
•Self motivated, with ability to work both independently and with multiple teams
