3888 - Senior Embedded Linux Software Engineer - Richmond, CA

This senior role is responsible for embedded systems firmware and software design and development as well as guiding and mentoring other team members in developing embedded systems. The successful candidate will be able to translate customer requirements into an embedded firmware and software architecture, create clear architectural specifications, and then implement the designs. This individual must communicate effectively with engineers from different disciplines as well as cross functional team members. A particular focus on systems level issues is required to meet the needs of all stakeholders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Participate in the development of product requirements for various projects. Create firmware and software architectures that support the product requirements. Be an advocate for best engineering practices and best software development processes. Participate in cross discipline engineering design reviews. Recommend development tool chains and other development equipment.
The successful Senior Embedded Software Engineer will implement firmware and software designs, including coding, coordinating with internal developers, and managing external resources. They will work proactively to find solutions to problems that arise during development, production, or deployment.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications
•Minimum 10 years embedded systems development experience with a strong focus on Linux firmware and software development. Hardware development experience a plus.
•BS or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. MS preferred.
•Complete mastery of state-of-the-art embedded Linux software development and a knowledge of embedded hardware development workflow. Solid understanding and knowledge of embedded operating systems, hardware platforms, electronic schematics, networking, and data communications.
•Experience interfacing into databases. Familiarity with developing Web applications and web services software.
•Experience managing external contract resources for development.
•Strong leadership ability, and an ability to manage a technical staff.
•Strong interest and skill in developing technical teams.
•Established track record of completing projects in a time- and resource-effective manner.
•Excellent written and verbal skills.
