3741 - Staff Mechanical Design Engineer, Systems Product Development - Richmond, CA
SunPower Corp (Richmond, CA) is looking for a Staff Mechanical Design Engineer. The role involves engineering design and development of the world’s leading PV mounting systems. Typically, this includes fixed and tracking systems targeted at residential, commercial, and utility applications. The products are targeted for distribution through both internal direct sales channels and 3rd party distributor and installers.
The ideal person will be a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of engineering principles, concepts, and industry practices and will have experience in product design, machine design, or testing. Experience with a variety of materials and fabrication techniques is required. Knowledge of roof design and construction considered a plus. Familiarity with industrial design practices also considered positively.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Work independently or as part of a group in the execution of complex engineering projects
• Take part in cross-functional teams for product development, corrective/preventive action, and process or infrastructure improvements
• Work independently and with other engineers to establish functional requirements, and system cost and performance targets.
• Develop plans, schedules and budgets for independent and small group projects
• Manage the design and development of portions of new products.
• Work with external consultants and internal resources to complete designs on time and within budget while meeting production cost targets.
• Support the transition of the product from design to manufacturing.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications
• 4-8 years experience in mechanical engineering design or product design
• Strong mechanical design aptitude
• Hands-on prototyping capability
• Demonstrated ability to develop creative and innovative design solutions
• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field
• CAD skills, SolidWorks preferred
• Excellent written and verbal skills
• Machine shop or construction experience preferred
• Self motivated, with ability to work both independently and with multiple teams
