4347 - NPI Operations Engineer: Mechanical - San Jose or Richmond, CA
This New Products Introduction (NPI) Operations Engineer: Mechanical Products position will be responsible to ensure products and supply chains are robust to achieve Cost, Quality, and Delivery objectives throughout the Product Life Cycle. This position will work within the Supply Chain / Operations organization. This role will work closely with R&D, Engineering other Operational functions to evaluate supplier, materials, manufacturing process capability and product design robustness in support of new products and production ramp.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Core team member for Product Development Team(s) through Stage Gate (Lifecycle) Process
• Engage w/ R&D engineering to evaluate, select and qualify materials and material suppliers in support of New Product Introduction.
• Analyze Product designs relative to DF* Criteria (Design-For-Manufacturability, Design-For-Assembly, Design-For-Constructability, Design-For-Logistics, Design-For-Supply Chain).
• Analyze supply chain design and postponement options for optimal, lean supply chain that achieve customer service levels.
• With Engineering, contribute to FMEA Analysis on product design
• Drive second-sourcing qualification activities at component level
• Review and approve all product specifications prior to ECO release
• With Engineering, develop Qualification Control Plan
• With Engineering. drive the Part Number creation process
• With Engineering, execute or source packaging design / specifications.
• With Engineering and Supplier Quality Engineering, develop Quality Control Plans for manufacturing
• With Supplier Quality Engineering, conduct suppliers’ qualification audits
• Manage all ECO cut-in / phase in process for the smooth integration of product changes
• Analyze ECO cut-in / phase-in to achieve optimal cost, quality, delivery objectives
• Support Material Review Board (MRB) toward dispositioning Non-Conforming product.
• Drive resolution of Non-Conforming product/specification related issues.
• Conduct First-Article Inspections on new products and revisions
• Conduct CpK studies on relevant manufacturing process
• Monitor and react to quality and reliability excursions through product life cycle.
• Support Engineering with Purchase Orders issuance to Suppliers on “uncontrolled” BOM for prototyping, first article, miscellaneous material requisitions and ramp production MRP requirements.
• Drive value-engineering cost improvement activity.
• Drive design of fixtures and tooling’s to support/improve manufacturing productivity & efficiency of outsourced products.
• Execute smooth transitions to production buyers as necessary.
• Drive continuous improve on all relevant operational processes.
Education and Experience
• 5-10 Years experience in design or manufacturing of mechanical products
• B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Supply Chain Management required.
• Ideal candidate has significant experience in bringing fabricated, mechanical or electro-mechanical products to market.
• MBA or MS Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering preferred.
• Experience in injection molding, stamping, welding, milling, turning, metal-forming, and galvanization/coating processes preferred.
Qualifications
• Knowledge & experience in product engineering or manufacturing for mechanical assemblies in a global environment.
• Extensive knowledge in DF* methodologies
• Extensive knowledge in multiple metal and plastic fabrication processes.
• Extensive knowledge in Statistics, Process, and Process Capability assessment.
• Extensive Knowledge in Six-Sigma methodologies, with demonstrable Green Belt degree.
• Familiarity with global supply chain operations for direct materials (e.g. steel, metal fabrication, plastics, chemicals, adhesives and/or packaging materials).
• Knowledge and experience with Continuous Improvement and Six Sigma methodologies.
• Knowledge and experience with ISO9000 requirements and their deployment.
• Knowledge and experience in the use of Oracle ERP system is preferred.
• Expertise in the use of Microsoft Excel and MS Projects required.
• Expertise in the use of AutoCad and SolidWorks required
• Proven track record in value-engineering cost reduction.
Desired Individual Qualities
• Comfortable with up to 50% domestic and international travels.
• Tenacious problem solver – can accurately assess, solve, implement, and communicate outcomes of problems
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Fluent in English.
• Exceptional ability to solve problems and coordinate with global team members.
• Ability to work in a rapid pace, very dynamic and changing environment.
